I always get so excited this time of year because Halloween is my all time favourite holiday. Maybe because I’m born in October? Whatever it is, I LOVE IT! Halloween is just around the corner, and I have some very important information to share. If you are looking for the best local Halloween events to give you goosebumps, you have come to the right place. I am a pro!

This post is all about local Halloween events.

Every year I like to enjoy these top 5 must-see Halloween attractions. Every year they change enough to keep me coming back. So get ready with me and lets dive into the haunted world of Toronto & the GTA’s Halloween scene.

A Haunted Castle Experience

1. Legends of Horror at Casa Loma

First up on our list of amazing local Halloween events is my all-time favourite- Legends of Horror at Casa Loma. The amount of time and money that goes into this event is crazy. The costumes, the special effects… everything, amazes me to the core! There is not one single time that I went, where I wasn’t spooked out of my tree. I learned, even on the coldest days, don’t wear a heavy jacket because I’ll be sweating from all the running I do trying to get away from the creepy characters that follow you.

Why do I think Legends of Horror is so awesome? Let me break it down for you:

  • It’s set on the grounds of a stunning historic castle giving off that really spooky vibe.
  • You’ll come face-to-face with classic horror characters. Trust me, they’re not just scary – they’re terrifying!
  • The special effects will blow your mind. It’s like stepping into a horror movie!

When you are halfway through the scariness and sweating your butt off, there is a nice surprise. A bar!! You can have drinks, food and just chill out and cool off before diving back into the terror. The one thing I have to say about this Halloween event is that the 2nd half is nowhere near as good as the first half. So don’t expect anything amazing on the back half.

Hollywood-Level Scares

2. Martino Manor in Etobicoke

Next on our tour of local Halloween events, we’re heading to Etobicoke for Martino Manor. If you are looking for a creepy eerie scary, then this is the go-to place. The fact that you are being followed throughout the whole tour is enough to give me a heart attack. This local event is privately owned and was created by a Hollywood effects artist so you know its going to be good!

Here’s what you can expect at Martino Manor:

  • Movie-quality props and costumes that’ll make you do a double-take
  • Super detailed sets that’ll transport you right into a horror film
  • Different themed areas to explore (because variety is the spice of life, even when it comes to scares)
  • A perfect mix of jump scares and creepy atmosphere to keep you on your toes

3. Halloween Haunt at Canada's Wonderland

Who says amusement parks are just for summer? Not us! Halloween Haunt at Canada’s Wonderland turns the whole park into one giant scare zone. It’s one of those local Halloween events that you must experience, even just once. It’s a lot of walking but there are several different haunted houses to visit which makes it exciting.

Here’s what you’ll find at Halloween Haunt:

  • Haunted mazes and scare zones scattered throughout the park
  • Creepy shows and performances to keep you entertained (and scared!)
  • The chance to ride roller coasters… in the dark! Might be a tad cold but worth the ride!
  • Zombies roaming around, ready to scare you and follow you when you least expect it. Just don’t make eye contact.

When you arrive you will get a stamp card to visit each haunted house. You get your card stamped and can keep track of the attractions so you don’t miss any! This local Halloween event is very eventful and busy. So if you like to people watch and have stimulation all around you, you must go see this. 

A Quarter-Century of Scares

Screemers

Now, let’s talk about Screemers.  This local Halloween event has been around since I was in my 20’s. I remember going there then, and going there present time, boy has it changed!! For the better, obviously. The amount of Halloween décor that surrounds the grounds is amazing. I love to look at all these special effects. It gets me in the mood for chills.

What makes Screemers so special? Let me tell you:

  • Multiple haunted houses in one location (because why settle for just one?)
  • A creepy midway with carnival games (win a prize… if you dare!)
  • The Carnival of Chaos with freaky performers that’ll make your skin crawl
  • A horror maze that’ll test your nerves and maybe your sense of direction

Every year, the thrills and scares at Screemers get bigger and better. It’s like a whole Halloween theme park packed into one convenient spot!

Worth The Trip

5. Haunt Manor & Frightmare in the Falls

Last but definitely not least on our list of local Halloween events, we’re taking a little road trip to Niagara Falls for Haunt Manor & Frightmare in the Falls. Trust me, it’s worth the drive! What makes this really scary is that it is set on a campground. This just gives me Jason from Friday 13th vibes.
